Saliant Hand Held Forensic Detection Equipment

The SALIANT project aims to develop a hand-held device for the real-time analysis of trace levels of explosives, toxic chemicals and drugs.

The key innovation of this project is a positive detection lateral-flow test for small molecules that is highly sensitive and simple to use. This makes it ideally suited to deployment by First Responders at crime scenes and terrorist incidents.

In the past, there have been very real challenges to bringing the full power of such technology to bear in this area. Small molecules are simply not large enough to support the simultaneous binding of both capture and detector antibodies. The new technology developed by SALIANT aims to solve these problems.

Forensic Investigation and Analysis

The hand held forensic detection system offered by SALIANT is based on the rapid positive detection of small molecular weight analytes such as explosives, toxic chemicals and drugs. This uses the forensic evidence collected and allows for the investigation and analysis of explosives, chemicals drugs by the security services.
